Boynton Beach Concrete, From Permit to Pour

Boynton Beach is a big city with its own engineering details for driveways, and the concrete contractors who do well here plan the permit before they plan the pour. The 2020 census counted 80,380 residents and 39,731 housing units. We pour and replace driveways and aprons, patios, pool decks, walks and slabs, and we repair concrete that has cracked, settled or been damaged in storms.

What the city expects on a driveway

The city's Permitting Resources page says all concrete driveways must conform to engineering detail G-18. Where a sidewalk exists or is planned, it must run continuously through the driveway at 6 inches thick. Where there is an existing curb, the drive is built as a drop curb by a licensed contractor. Corner-lot driveways must sit at least 30 feet from the street intersection. If the work adds 800 square feet or more of impervious area, the city asks for drainage calculations and a drainage plan from a professional engineer, and the application needs a table of existing and proposed impervious area.

Two more items catch people out: a driveway on a county road needs a Palm Beach County permit as well, and homes in an HOA need written HOA approval in the package. We help assemble all of it.

A long history of building in concrete

Wikipedia says Nathan Boynton, a former Civil War major from Port Huron, Michigan, settled here in 1895, and his Boynton Hotel opened in 1897 with room for 100 guests. The town incorporated in 1920 after 48 of 50 qualified voters approved it and took the name Boynton Beach in 1941. The 1928 Okeechobee hurricane destroyed 46 homes and damaged 255. The Schoolhouse Children's Museum is a two-story concrete school built in 1913, now on the National Register, and the city's Historic Resources and Preservation Board lists 170 historic sites.

Growth from the 1960s on

Boynton Beach had 10,467 residents in 1960, 35,624 in 1980 and 60,389 in 2000. That growth means a lot of driveways, patios and pool decks from the 1970s through the 1990s are now at the age where they show settlement, root damage and worn surfaces. If your home is in an HOA, its approved colors and finishes become part of the plan.

On pool decks, the usual complaint is a hot, slick or crazed surface. We can replace the deck with a textured or broom finish that stays cooler underfoot, slope it away from the pool and the house, and set expansion joints where the deck meets the coping.

Boynton Beach Questions

Do I need an engineer for my Boynton Beach driveway?

Only in some cases. The city asks for engineer drainage calculations when a project adds 800 square feet or more of impervious area. Many like-for-like driveway replacements stay under that threshold, and we measure to confirm.

Does my HOA need to sign off?

Yes. The city's permit guidance lists written HOA approval as part of the package for homes in an HOA.

Can you redo a slippery pool deck?

Yes. We replace the deck with a textured or broom finish, slope it away from the pool and house, and set proper expansion joints.
