Concrete Work in a 1920s Planned Town

Lake Park is small, dense and old by South Florida standards, and concrete contractors working here usually replace concrete on established lots rather than pour on bare ground. The town had 9,047 residents and 3,755 housing units in 2020, on about 2.4 square miles. We replace driveways, walks and steps, pour patios and slabs, and repair broken or lifted sections.

Kelsey City and the Olmsted plan

Wikipedia says the town incorporated in 1923 as Kelsey City, named for Boston entrepreneur Harry Seymour Kelsey, who bought 30,000 acres north of West Palm Beach. Dr. John Nolen of Boston and the Olmsted Brothers, sons of Frederick Law Olmsted, designed and planned it, and Lake Park was the first zoned municipality in Florida. It took its current name in 1939. The Lake Park Town Hall, built in 1927 and listed on the National Register, survived the 1928 Okeechobee hurricane and sheltered residents during the storm.

A planned street grid with modest lots means driveways here are often short and narrow, walks run straight from the sidewalk to the door, and many homes have a small rear patio. We keep new work at that scale so it fits the street.

What decades of use do to small slabs

On older Lake Park homes, the problems we see most are drives cracked by tree roots or heavy trucks, front steps that have pulled away from the house, and patios built in pieces over the years. Where a few sections have failed and the base is sound, we cut and replace only those. Where the slab is thin and broken throughout, a new base and full replacement is the better repair.

Near the Intracoastal

The town's eastern edge borders the Intracoastal Waterway, across from Singer Island, and sits at about 13 feet of elevation. Low ground and heavy summer rain mean drainage matters on every job. We set slopes so patios and walks shed water toward the yard or the street, keep downspout discharge off new slabs and avoid creating spots where water stands.

Lake Park Questions

My front steps have pulled away from the house. Can you fix that?

Yes. We remove the failed steps, check the footing and soil, and pour new steps tied properly to the house and walk.

Can you replace only the broken parts of my driveway?

If the base is sound and the damage is limited, we cut and replace just those sections and match the finish.

Do I need a permit for driveway work in Lake Park?

Driveway work that reaches the street or right-of-way usually needs town approval. We check before scheduling.
