Concrete Work in Lake Clarke Shores

Lake Clarke Shores is one of the smallest towns we serve, and concrete contractors working here are mostly replacing and upgrading slabs on established lots near the lake. The town covers about 1.03 square miles and had 3,564 residents and 1,478 housing units in 2020. We replace driveways, pour patios and walks, add slabs for sheds and equipment, and repair cracked or settled concrete.

A lake shaped by a canal

Wikipedia says John Newton Clarke filed a homestead claim in 1897 for 139 acres on the lake's eastern shore and named the lake after himself. When the West Palm Beach Canal was completed in 1917, the lake dropped about 8 feet and was reduced to a marsh. Attorney Walter Travers bought 250 acres at auction in the late 1940s, a bridge across the canal was finished in 1953, and voters approved incorporation 113 to 4 in 1956. The legislature approved the charter on July 1, 1957.

The town already had 1,297 residents by 1960 and 3,174 by 1980, so most homes date from the late 1950s through the 1970s. Their original driveways and patios have been in service for 50 years or more.

Lakefront and low-lying lots

The town sits at about 13 feet of elevation, next to West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach. Lots that slope toward the lake or a canal need patios and walks pitched so runoff heads that way rather than toward the house. Near the water, the ground can stay wet for long stretches in the rainy season, so we compact the base thoroughly and avoid pouring on soft or saturated soil.

Typical jobs on older homes

Mid-century lots here often have a single-car driveway, a carport slab and a small back patio. Owners commonly ask us to widen the drive, replace the carport slab during an enclosure or remodel, enlarge the patio toward the lake, or remove trip hazards on the walk. We plan the layout so new and old sections meet cleanly and the drainage still works.

Lake Clarke Shores Questions

Can you extend my patio toward the lake?

Yes. We pitch the extension so water runs toward the lake, compact the base well and tie it cleanly into the existing slab.

When is the best time to pour on a low lot?

The drier months are easiest, but we can pour year-round by scheduling around storms and avoiding saturated ground.

Do you replace carport slabs?

Yes, including slabs under carports being enclosed. The enclosure itself may need a town building permit.
