Concrete Work on Both Sides of the Lagoon

Riviera Beach covers mainland neighborhoods and most of Singer Island, and concrete contractors here deal with two very different settings: inland streets with older block homes, and island properties exposed to salt air and wind. The city had 37,604 residents and 17,868 housing units in 2020. We replace driveways, pour walks, patios and slabs, and repair concrete that has broken, settled or worn.

A long local history

Wikipedia says the settlement was called Oak Lawn before it was renamed Riviera in 1893 after the French Riviera. It incorporated as the Town of Riviera on September 29, 1922, added "Beach" in 1941 and became a city in 1959. For the first half of the 20th century its nickname was Conchtown, after the Bahamian families who settled here. The population grew from 811 in 1930 to 13,046 in 1960 and 32,488 in 2010, so the mainland holds a large share of mid-century homes whose original drives and walks are now 60 years old or more.

Mainland homes

On older mainland lots, the usual requests are a replacement for a cracked single-car drive, a wider parking pad, a new front walk and steps, or a back patio. Slabs from the 1950s and 1960s were often poured thin over minimal base, so we generally recommend a full tear-out and new compacted base rather than patching. We also check for old clay or cast-iron cleanouts in the drive before we dig, and keep them accessible in the new slab.

Singer Island and the waterfront

Lake Worth Lagoon separates Singer Island from the mainland, and the island side faces the Atlantic. Near salt water, reinforcing steel corrodes faster if it sits too close to the surface, and wind-driven sand wears finishes. For coastal slabs we pay attention to cover over any reinforcement, use a dense, well-cured mix and pick a broom or textured finish that holds up to sand and stays safe when wet. Condo and HOA properties on the island usually need association approval before exterior work.

The port and heavier loads

Riviera Beach is home to the Port of Palm Beach, a U.S. Coast Guard station and its own marina. Around the working waterfront and on residential lots with boats and trailers, slabs often have to carry more than a car. We size thickness and base for the load and thicken edges where trailers turn.

Riviera Beach Questions

Does salt air affect concrete on Singer Island?

It can corrode reinforcing steel that sits too near the surface. We keep proper cover over steel, use a dense mix and cure it well.

Should I patch or replace an old mainland driveway?

On thin 1950s and 1960s slabs, a full replacement with a new compacted base usually lasts far longer than patching.

Can you pour a pad for my boat trailer?

Yes. We size the thickness and base for the weight and thicken the edges where the trailer turns.
